Thank you for inquiring into the Wisp Ski Patrol.
We begin the process by inviting all prospective candidates to join
us for a morning of skiing, where we can ski with you and
evaluate your skills to see if they are at a level that we can train you to
become a patroller. If for some reason this date is not good, please contact us
and we can make other arrangements. Depending on our needs, we then draw from
this group our candidates for the following season.
We will run an Outdoor
Emergency Care course in the fall which generally runs for three months. Once
the season starts we begin a regular schedule of on the hill skiing, skiing
skills, toboggan handling and first aid skills training. We hold sessions every
Saturday and Sunday and usually on a weekday evening. At the end of each season
we hold evaluations in these various skills to determine if candidates have
attained patroller level. There is also a checklist of additional skills that a
candidate must have worked through before they become a candidate. We look on
this program as a two year program, dependent on a candidates basic skill level
and the amount of training time they have to put in it. The candidate will
receive a free ski pass with expectations that they will participate in a
minimum number of training sessions.
Once a candidate becomes a patroller,
there are expanded benefits. This candidate program involves a lot of time and
effort but is greatly rewarded by new skills in first aid and improvement in
your skiing or boarding skills. If you are looking to enhance and expand your
skiing experience please fill out our online application by clicking the link below or
stop by and see us in the lower level of the A-Frame building at the Wisp Ski Area
and we can give you more information.
